Piruntupa cottage is located right on the shore of the scenic Orivirta waterway, offering excellent fishing opportunities straight from the private pier. Orivirta connects Lake Paasvesi and Pyyvesi – both rich in fish like pike, perch, and salmon. A valid Finnish state fishing license is required. Guests are welcome to bring their own boats, and there’s a convenient boat ramp and a sturdy jetty on-site. The area has frequent boat traffic, as Orivirta is a deep waterway. If you’re lucky, you might spot the endangered Saimaa ringed seal relaxing by the shore – a truly magical experience

Just 21 km away, Kolovesi offers untouched nature and peaceful archipelago scenery. Most of the park is reserved for non-motorized travel, making it ideal for paddlers and nature lovers. The Pitkäsaari picnic harbor is the only spot accessible by motorboat. You can also reach the Mäntysalo trailhead by water.

The Orivirta Blockade is a historic remnant of a Swedish-built fortress from the 15th century, likely constructed during the same period as the famous Olavinlinna Castle. According to folklore, the original Olavinlinna was to be built in Savonranta, but supernatural forces tore it down each night. Visitors can also see First World War soldier graves near Piruntupa, along the roadside hill – a quiet and powerful reminder of the area’s past.
